It's breakfast season again – or rather – it's ALWAYS breakfast season here. In recent years, breakfast has become more and more important and has asserted its position as probably the most important meal of the day – at least that's what many scientists agree on. Of course, it's not only important that you eat breakfast, but also what you eat.
It is often difficult to find a common denominator, especially at breakfast time. Some people like a hearty breakfast, some prefer a light one and some don't eat breakfast at all (yet). Today we would like to give you a few tips for a delicious, simple and, above all, healthy breakfast.

Is breakfast healthy?
Breakfast is a hotly debated topic, as we all know. Opinions on the subject vary widely – but studies have repeatedly shown that people who eat breakfast regularly are healthier, more active and often also slimmer than those who do without breakfast. Likewise, studies have shown that breakfast is generally part of a healthy lifestyle. So how can you make sure that you are doing something good for your body first thing in the morning?
What is the healthiest breakfast and what does a healthy breakfast look like?
As you probably already know, there is no such thing as a “universally healthy breakfast”. Instead, there are a few things to consider when it comes to a healthy breakfast. The most important thing to look out for in the first meal of the day is balance. As with everything in life, it is important not to eat only one-sided food.
Incorporating the following three elements is a great step towards a balanced, nutritious breakfast:
- good carbohydrates,
- fruits and vegetables, and
- warm food and drinks.
The foundation for a healthy breakfast has been laid – now let's get into the details:
With these five tips, you can have a balanced breakfast.
1. Don't forget about (good) carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are the fuel for your body's engine – they provide you with the energy you need for work, university, sports and more. Since the energy stores are emptied overnight, it is important to refill them after getting up. Here, it is important to make sure that you do not reach for sugary foods. These will make you tired again quickly after breakfast – keyword: rapidly rising and falling blood sugar levels – and you will also gain weight more quickly.
That's why it's best to put cereal products on your plate or in your bowl in the morning, and preferably whole grain products. Whether in porridge, muesli or simple bread, wholegrain is extremely healthy due to its complex carbohydrates and, as a small bonus, also helps you lose weight. Of course, we don't want to withhold our wide range of wholegrain products from you – two of our favorites are: the Bircher porridge and our sports muesli.

2. Take your time!
It's not always just what you eat that counts. It's also important how much time you take to eat. There are many studies on this topic, too, which show that eating and chewing slowly is healthier for the body. Breakfast lays the foundation for the rest of your day, so you should take enough time and not stress. If you start your day already stressed, you won't get out of this mess. Therefore: Slow and steady wins the race!
3. Drink, drink, drink
Drinking enough is an extremely important part of a balanced breakfast. People lose a lot of fluids overnight, which you need to replace in the morning. That's why we recommend that you drink a glass of water as soon as you get up. For breakfast in general, you can choose whatever you like – hot drinks such as (unsweetened) tea or coffee are always good.
4. Colorful is better!
This also applies to your breakfast. Fruits and vegetables are a very important part of a balanced diet. Even at breakfast, you should make sure that you incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into your daily routine. Colorful also makes you healthy.
Fruits and vegetables contain many important vitamins that keep you healthy and fit. How about a delicious smoothie bowl for breakfast, for example?
5. Warm food is good for you!
Traditional Chinese medicine prefers warm breakfasts: the body needs extra energy to warm cold food. Only then can the body extract the nutrients contained in the food – but if you eat something warm, the body can use these valuable substances directly.
Porridge, for example, is always a hot tip for a warm breakfast. It is not only delicious, but also very healthy! The oat meal gets our circulation going and provides us with many important substances such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, fiber and minerals. Porridge also helps to strengthen the immune system and regulates blood sugar levels.
